2009 BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR

PURPOSE

      To recognize an individual who has made enduring and outstanding contributions in the field of business.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

      1. Ethical Conduct: A successful business record of responsibility toward employees, customers and members of the community.

 

      2. Reputation: A high level of respect within the business community for financial performance, corporate responsibility, service to the community and political awareness.

 

      3. Recognition: Improved the business image of the community on the local, state or national level.

 

      4. Leadership: Improved the business climate through positive action and influence.

 

      5. Business Growth: Increased number of employees, sales or created significant business activity. Recent business achievements are important considerations, but wealth alone is not a sufficient measure.

 

ELIGIBILITY

      Any member of the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce associated with a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or professional practice in the Greater Florence area is eligible for nomination.  Elected officials and employees of government or not-for-profit organizations are ineligible unless they are also involved in business and meet other eligibility requirements.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

      Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee appointed by the President of the Chamber, one of whom will be a representative of Wachovia. The selection committee shall determine solicitation of nominations.

 

RECIPIENT HONORS

      The recipient will receive a plaque to be displayed at the recipient's place of business and one to be displayed at the Chamber.  A gift of distinction will also be awarded to the recipient by Wachovia.  In addition, a check in the amount of $1500 will be presented to the Chamber to be used for economic development in the name of the recipient.  The business person of the year will be announced at the Chamber's Annual Meeting.
